The Metro Atlanta office of Larson Engineering, Inc. is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead and produce designs for bulk material handling projects.  The position will require skills for a wide variety of engineering tasks relating to heavy industrial projects which deal with material handling designs from the initial concept through construction.

Description

Specific tasks will include developing site layouts, equipment layouts, process & instrumentation diagrams, equipment specifications, cost estimating, bid assistance, construction assistance, etc. Direct experience with the design of bulk material handling systems is required for this position. Experience in processing and handling of wood chips, bark, whole logs, and other materials in the pulp and paper or wood products industry is preferred.

This position will work directly with multiple disciplines to develop all aspects of various projects.  The position will require direct contact with clients and vendors to meet necessary project goals. The ideal candidate will be an independent goal seeker and have a growth-orientated personality with a willingness to address all aspects of varying industrial projects.  As an engineering consultant, you will need a broad knowledge of the latest equipment and technology used in the pulp and paper, wood products, agricultural, and utility industries, with the ability to develop detailed design solutions for clients.

Specific Responsibilities Include: 

• Leading, performing, and overseeing specific project tasks related to mechanical and material handling design.
• Performing equipment sizing calculations
• Creation of equipment, project, and material specifications.
• Experienced use of AutoCAD and other 3D design programs to produce construction documents.
• Performing field verifications of new designs and existing environments.
• Collecting existing information and interpreting data.
• Creation of reports, project summaries and recommendations.
• Developing projects from initial design concepts through construction.
• Coordinating with other disciplines to generate project goals for the client.
• Providing onsite construction assistance.
• Ability to Travel as needed ~15%.

Qualifications 

• BSME or BSMET
• 10 years minimum experience in a Design Engineering role, for material handling projects
• High Proficiency in CAD design and Design Standards
• Excellent presentation and verbal communication skills
• Excellent written communications skills
